Joseph Houston Crosser, 57, well-known Pemiscot County farmer died Tuesday, February 16 at Pemiscot County, Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for a few days following a heart attack.
Mr. Crosser was born in Paris, Tennessee, on November 23, 1902 and moved to near this city 29 years ago, having been one of the county's more progressive farmers since that time. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was one of the founders of the Little League baseball project in this area and served as manager for several of the teams, also was instrumental in obtaining a baseball diamond at McCarty in the R-3 District. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and was project leaders for the Chapter 4-H Club.
On November 1, 1923, in Tiptonville, Tenn., he was married to Miss Birdie May Feasel, who survives.
He also leaves three sons, Joe Anderson of the Chapel vicinity; four daughters, Mrs. Lorene Walker, St. Louis, Mrs. Lorelle McGee, Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Peggy Shelby, Caruthersville and Miss Barbara Crosser, Memphis.
Also surviving are his mother Mrs. Belle Crosser, St. Petersburg, Fla. and seven sisters, Mrs. Kathryn McIntyre, Mrs. Ruby Buffalo, Mrs. Reba Ash, Mrs. Mary Maxwell, Mrs. Birdie Yarbro, Mrs. Nanny Clark and Mrs. Hettie Jones.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Eastwood Memorial Methodist Church, with the Rev. Floyd V. Brower officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith service.
