But FindAGrave won't allow a nickname to be the same as a middle name, and I prefer the memorial to be alphabetized according to the name on the actual headstone, in order to prevent anyone from accidentally duplicating the memorial if they can't find it listed under the name on the headstone.

Died at the Battle of Utoy Creek which was part of the Battle of Atlanta.

NOTE, JAN. 2021: According to research done by a descendant along with a Civil War historian, the mystery of why George Washington Sharp has two headstones in the same cemetery has been solved. (See the other Washington Sharp memorial at #116246692, until it is replaced in July 2021. I will update this bio information once the other stone is removed). Here is the message from the descendant:

"George Washington Sharp is my 3X great grandfather. I have been puzzled by the two headstones with this name in Marietta National Cemetery. Since I live near the cemetery, I decided to devote some time to figuring out which George Washington Sharp is buried in 6089 and who is in 6289. I enlisted the assistance of Civil War historian, Brad Quinlin. Thanks to Brad's work, we discovered that an error was made when some replacement headstones were ordered in the early 1900s. The soldier buried in 6089 is actually an unknown. George Washington Sharp is buried in 6289. The National Cemetery has been informed and the 6089 headstone (that is usually photographed and tied to GW Sharp) will be removed and corrected. A new headstone will be erected for this unknown soldier and dedicated on the weekend of July 9-11, 2021."

UPDATE, DEC. 2023:
Further information from the descendant:

"I just returned home from participating in the annual Wreaths Across America event. I placed a fresh wreath on the actual grave of George Washington Sharp #6289. Then I went to pay my respects to the unknown fallen soldier who has been resting under the other George Washington Sharp headstone for the past century, and found that the incorrect headstone has finally been removed!!! Headstone #6089 no longer exists. A small metal spike protruded from the newly-disturbed dirt that said "Unknown." So, progress has been made toward correcting this confusion. A new granite "Unknown" headstone is slated to be put in place in April or May on the gravesite that had been mismarked as George Washington Sharp's, so there should no longer be any confusion."

Glad to hear this has finally been resolved!
