Arthur was the son of Aiden & Rachel Macy Edson and one of four children. On 15 May 1912, he married Emma Katherine Lux. They were the parents of Arthur Lewis and Mildred Carrie (Brite).

Arthur was a direct descendant of Isaac Peabody, Sr,, and Isaac Peabody, Jr, and Abraham Burton. These men are recognized as patriots of the Revolutionary War by the DAR.
