I...believe that they had 3 more children who died as infants, Jacob, Christina, and Martin, as their names/dates are also inscribed on Michael and Gertrude's memorial stone.
"Solomon Hauser, formerly a well-known and respected citizen of Cross township, Buffalo County, but now deceased, was born in Cross township, August 6, 1866, son of Michael and Gertrude (Winter) Hauser.
The parents were natives of Germany, but they were married in Galena, Ill. Both had come to the United States in 1855, Michael arriving in the country after a voyage of sixty days in a sailing vessel.
After their marriage in Galena they came up river to Holmes Landing, now Fountain City. They found a suitable tract of land on which to settle in section 3, Cross township, and began domestic life here in pioneer fashion, their dwelling being a log house and his draught team a yoke of oxen.
Their market was Fountain City, and they often walked there on foot, carrying farm produce and bringing home supplies. In time, Michael Hauser accumulated four hundred acres of land and took rank as one of the prosperous citizens of Cross township.
He and his wife had six children: Andrew, Frederica, Solomon, Mary, Henry, and Minnie, of whom Solomon and Mary are now deceased. Solomon, who married Emma Baertsch, died March 15, 1906. His active career was spent as a farmer of Cross township. He had eight children: John, Esther, Pearl, Hilbert, Oscar, George, Leuverne, and Sally."
