PORT LAVACA - Erwin Koliba passed away on Jan. 14, 2009. He was born in rural Dewitt County near Hochheim on Nov. 8, 1929 to James and Emma Koliba.

Erwin served in the Army during the Korean conflict as a corporal in the motor ordinance and was discharged in 1953. After his discharge he and his family moved to Port Lavaca. He started working as a mechanic for Terry Bunch Motor until he opened Erwin's Automotive in 1963. Erwin was in business for 35 years. After his retirement Erwin enjoyed flying to his cabin on Matagorda Peninsula and fishing.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bernard Koliba, and his step-son, Henry Paul Dingler Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lanelle; sons, Randy (Donna) Koliba and Daryl (Linda) Koliba; daughters; Vicky (Lee) Kalisek, Sheryl (Michael) MacFarlane, and Tanya (Max) Carrion; brothers, Butch, Buddy, and John Koliba; sisters, Margaret Hughes, Mary Ruth Albers, and Donna Falksen; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Kalisek, Kenne Tuttle and Brad MacFarlane; and friends, Sonny Gottschalt, Tommy Cornett, and Gary George.

A special thank you to Paul Bunnell, M.D., Cherise Bludau-Branch, and all the staff at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care of Erwin.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, Jan. 15, 2009, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m., at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Dewville Cemetery near Nixon.
