Squire enlisted in Company B, 7th Tennessee Infantry on October 8, 1862 at Huntsville, Tennessee. He transferred to Company B, 8th Tennessee Infantry on May 13, 1863 and became 1st Sergeant of this company late in the fall of 1863. He was killed in action in the Battle of Utoy Creek near Atlanta.
