San Francisco Mayor. Born the son of a Spanish Military Officer, he joined the Spanish Army himself at a young age. After being stationed at the town of Yerba Buena, later to be renamed San Francisco in 1846; he was assigned in 1835 to oversee the secularization of Mission Dolores. Later that same year, he was appointed the second Alcalde, or Mayor, of San Francisco a post he held until 1836. In 1837 he moved across the San Francisco Bay where he was granted Rancho San Leandro in 1842. Parts of Rancho San Leandro were later be donated by Estudillo's widow to be used to found the city of San Leandro. The site of his San Leandro home is designated California Historical Landmark # 279.
