LaVaughan Barton, 33, son of Mrs. Jessie Barton of Dodson and a native of the Atlanta Community, died in a fire at his residence at 4 a.m. Sunday in the State of Washington where he was employed at a sawmill. No details of the accident were available to this newspaper.

The remains were returned to Winnfield Wednesday morning and last rites will be conducted at Sardis Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Ray Teal, pastor of the Atlanta Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery near Sardis.

Surviving are his mother, a son and daughter; two brothers, Norman Barton of Winnfield and Larry Barton, Jr., of Dodson; and a sister, Mrs. Albert Flurry of Dodson.

He also leaves a half brother, Lawrence E. Keith of Trinity, Texas and a half sister, Mrs. B. R. Hill of Dodson.

The above death date is from Mr. Barton's WA state death certificate. It agrees with his obituary. The date inscribed on his grave marker (May 5, 1969) is wrong.
