ST. JOHN - Charley Rice, 83, died Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Wichita. Born Oct. 21, 1894 in Rice County, he married Bertha Ukens Aug. 15, 1919 in Stafford County. He was a retired farmer and lived here most of his life.
He was a member of the American Legion, Great Bend; World War I Veteran.
Survivors include widow; sons: Lester, St. John; Norman, Great Bend; Virgil, Stafford; daughters: Mrs. Vernadine Hughes, Mrs. Rachel Bosher, both of Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs. Marlene Plennert, Palm Desert, Calif.; sister: Mrs. Katie Clarke, Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel, St. John; the Rev. Tom Bandy. Burial will be in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
