TOVEY - Reba Fern Best, 92, of Tovey died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born May 31, 1917, in Springerton, the daughter of Ernest Arson and Mary Margaret (Deon) Smith. She married the Rev. James "Gib" Best on Dec. 10, 1935, in Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Michael Sheldon; brothers, Harold A. Smith, Ernest Smith and Clayton Smith; and sisters, Rosana Muford and Laura Louise Mrotezk.

Mrs. Best had been employed by St. Vincent Hospital and was a devoted pastor's wife.

She was a member of Pawnee Assembly of God Church, Senior Citizens Bible Study Group, and was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and loved gardening.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. James "Gib" Best; two sons, Larry LeRoy (wife, Becky Jean) Best of Springfield and Jerry LaVern (wife, Jean Kay) Best of Tovey; two daughters, Beverly JoAnn (husband, William) Bowsher of Pawnee and Marilyn Louis (husband, Stanford) Sheldon of Taylorville; 12 grandchildren, James Bowsher, Julie Szabo, Jolynn Anderson, Jan Bowsher, Les Brian Sheldon, Chet Sheldon, Jerry Best, Larry Best, Mickey Best, Kristy Ames, Jerry M. Best and Reba R. Best; 19 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Victor Lee Smith and Donald Gilbert Smith, both of Taylorville and Glen Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Helen Marie Barding and Betty Jean Neikes, both of Taylorville, Mary Kelley of Wood River and Joyce Romaine Lutchka of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee. Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, with Pastor A.B. Bennett and Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville with graveside rites by grandson, Rev. Mickey Best.
