He was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Lovell, the son of Carl J. and Estella Lynn Doerr. All of his formal schooling was in Lovell. He married Shirley Sonners on Feb. 28, 1942, in Billings, and, in October of 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged from the military in September of 1945 and returned to Lovell to Shirley and his daughter, Judy. A, son, Jerry, was born in September 1951.
With the exception of having lived for a few months in California, early in their marriage, Gerald spent his entire life in Lovell, where he has and has had many precious friends. Gerald's occupational pursuits included real estate investment, automobile sales, and restaurant owner/operator.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 63 years; his daughter, Judy Welch (Tim), of Redding, Calif.; and his son, Jerry Doerr (Carol) of Worland. Gerald and Shirley have been blessed with five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Elenora Ball of Lovell and one brother, Bob, of Byron. He was preceded in death by sisters Beverly (Mower) and Irene (Asay), and brothers Norm, Lynn and Dick.
Gerald served faithfully as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life and was known as a kind and generous friend to all who had the good fortune to know him.
Funeral services will be at the Lovell Stake Center on Saturday, April 23, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be at the Haskell Funeral Home, Friday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the North Big Horn Senior Citizen Center, Dialysis Transportation Fund, 757 Great Western Avenue, Lovell, WY 82431.
