1963
Richard J. Toole
In a life that ended unexpectedly April 16 for Richard J. Toole, assistant manager of the Rochester Industrial Management Council, a story of courage was written that will live in the memories of those who knew this personable Irishman and ex-cavalryman.

An injury with a horse in the 1930s and a chronic illness conspired, in the course of 35 operations, to rob him of both legs. Yet through prosthetic aid he drove a car and only after his most recent surgery did he use crutches. Dick Toole never admitted to any handicap. He carried on a personal crusade by encouraging others. It was characteristic of Dick Toole to chide an acquaintance who had lost a foot in these words: "Look at me. I lost both legs but I get along." He did, too, with a fortitude in the face of adversities that would have disheartened lesser men. His competence as an executive was bulwarked by unbounded energy, utter devotion to his job and a priceless Irish wit.
