Funeral services were held for Lillian Maxine Cowan, 59, at Weed Corley Funeral Home with Dr. Jack D. Heacock officiating. Burial followed at Austin Memorial Park. She died October 22, 1985 in Austin.

Mrs. Cowan, whose maiden name was Bennett, was born July 30, 1926 at Graham to Pearl and Jewell Bennett.

She graduated from the Graham High School and served as a vocational nurse both for private duty and as an employee in a doctor's clinic. Later she served as placement director for graduate students at the Texas Western College in El Paso. She was also the first acting director of the Texas Board of Private Investigators and private security agencies as set up by the State Legislature, which agency is still in operation and growing. For her term of service as first acting director for this agency in 1969-70 she was recently awarded a plaque.

She was married on August 19, 1949, to W.A. Cowan, Jr., and had one daughter, Lillian Kay. Her husband was a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety and they lived in various cities such as Houston, Bay City, Mineral Wells, El Paso and Austin.

Mrs. Cowan was a Methodist and at the time of her death she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Austin.

She was also a member of the Martha Chapter No. 883, O.E.S., in Austin.
