Christopher Hedrick was one of the first settlers, of Franklin Twp., Henry Co., IN, coming here in 1822. He left his home in Virginia and came through the wilderness on horseback, alone, going as far as Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., IN, but returned to Henry Co., IN and entered 160 acres of land in Franklin township.
Christopher was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA, in 1801, a son of John Philip Hedrick and Margaret Rider/Reiter; his father was a native of Pennsylvania, and a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
Christopher married, on May 28, 1835, to Zilpha, a daughter of Joseph Copeland. They had a family of six children: Jesse S., Abner, Rebecca, George, Joseph C. and John. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics, he was a Whig, and subsequently a Republican. Christopher died in the spring of 1878 and his wife, Zilpha, on July 28, 1882.
