Louvisa (maiden name unknown)came to America for religious freedom. She brought her Bible with her. It was a German translation of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. The Bible is now in the possession of the Henry Co (IN) Historical Society. Louvisa married Phillip Hedrick in about 1782 in Pennsylvania. They soon moved to Pittsylvania Co, Virginia. The couple had 8 or 9 children plus at least one daughter from Phillip's first marriage. Several of these children settled in Henry Co, IN. In their later years, Phillip and Louvisa also moved to Indiana and lived with their son, Christopher. Louvisa, better known as "Aunt Polly", had medical skills and dispensed herbs and medicines throughout her neighborhood and delivered many babies as well. It is said that she she dispersed Calvinism as liberally as she did her herbs and medicines and considered the religion to have the greater efficacy. Phillip died in 1833 and sometime after that was followed in death by Louvisa (She died between 1840 and 1850 according to US Census).
