Mr. S. P. Smith, one of The Sun's best friends and who lives near town was in town last Wednesday and made us a call. He brought in some of this years sugar cane syrup still hot from the mill. He also was telling us of a brand of peas he had planted. From one bush alone, he pulled 254 pods of peas. If our farmers would plant this pea extensively and with other things that Mr. Smith plants, they would not care if the bottom of cotton was out all the time.

To Kill Potato Bugs – Will the Sun please publish for the benefit of Irish Potato raisers that a strong tea made from common cedar sprinkled on the plants late in the evening will certainly kill all the bugs. I know this to be a fact for I have tried it.

MR. SIMON PETER SMITH DIED FRIDAY IN CHAMBERS COUNTY

Last Friday night, occurred the death, rather suddenly, of Mr. Simon Peter Smith at his home near Stroud, in Chambers county. He was an old and respected resident of that section and was a member of the Primitive Baptist church. His wife is very ill at this time. Several grown children survive. Funeral and interment was at Mount Pisgah on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large congregation. Elder Satterwhite conducted the services.

Stroud - Our community was saddened to hear of the death of S. P. Smith, who died at his home near Stroud last Friday night. Interment was in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery, with Elder Satterwhite officiating. The bereaved ones have the writer's sympathy.

Obituary.

Mr. S. P. Smith was born August 24, 1859, and married Miss Martha Wallace December 2, 1880. These became father and mother of three daughters and four sons. The four sons and one daughter still survive. The mother is not expected to live but a few days. He joined the church at Mount Pisgah in November, 1882, and was a most consecrated member until his death, which occurred August 27, 1926. He was laid to rest in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery on August 28, in the presence of one of the largest gatherings ever seen at that place, after short discourse by Elder J. T. Satterwhite. We wish for these bereaved ones the best of blessings.

S. P. Smith, veteran Chambers Countian, age 68, died at his home near Welch last Friday after an illness of a few days. The deceased had lived for years in the Welch community, uniting with the Mount Pisgah Church early in life and living within its influence until he died. His wife survives him, besides four sons, W. H. Smith, Dock Smith, J. T. Smith and George Smith. The family chain was not broken until a few months ago when his daughter died at the Smith home and later Mrs. B. L. Norris died after a lingering illness. One living daughter of Georgia also survives the deceased. Interment was in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery Saturday with Elder J. T. Satterwhite, pastor, officiating.
