Funeral services for Rollan Edwin Kister, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. July 10 at Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas with Pastor Tim Ricker of Frontier Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will be 3 p.m. Friday at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.

Rollan Kister, a resident of Douglas, passed away at his home on July 4, 2009, from emphysema.

Rollan was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Montpelier, Idaho, the son of George John and Pearl Myrtle (Babcock) Kister. He was the third of 10 children and was raised in Veteran.

On July 19, 1950, he married Maxine R. Cole in Torrington. They were blessed with four children.

Rollan loved people and he loved to work. He held many occupations in his life, including oil field work, diamond core drilling in the Sunrise mine and owning a furniture store and auction houses. But his first loves were farming, which he learned in childhood, auctioneering, which he had done since 1950, and sheepshearing with his 10-man crew and shearing wagon, which he designed and built himself.

He was an avid license plate collector. Among his collection was a complete set of 1915 thru 2009 Wyoming plates.

Every year he loved driving his 1953 Chevy car in the Wyoming State Fair Parade with Maxine riding beside him.

Rollan was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Douglas; son George and wife JoAnn of Rancho Cuckamonga, Calif., and their children Chris, Andy, Melody Wall and Jenny; son Ken of Casper; daughter Kathy Nachtman and husband Jerry of Jay Em and their children, Casey, Marcy Kier and Jodi Grohs; daughter Jane Bryson of Casper and her children, Jack, Katy and John; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Gladys Dietz of Ventura, Calif., and Norvella Hogan of Gardnerville, Nev.; and brother Talfred of Apache Junction, Ariz.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Bryson, Katy Bryson, Casey Nachtman, Marcy Kier, Jodi Grohs and Levi Grohs.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Bryson, Chris Kister, Andy Kister, Melody Wall, Jenny Kister, Burdette Kister, Richard Rush, and Russ Broderdorp and Joe Zavorka.

A memorial to the Amedisys Hospice Services, 907 North Poplar Street, Suite 153, Casper, WY 82601, would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-7 p.m.

Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of the arrangements.
