Gladys Georgina Dietz

Ventura, CA

In the early morning hours of July 20th, our beloved mother, grandmother, and most gracious lady and friend passed away unexpectedly.

Gladys was born April 28th, 1932 in Torrington, Wyoming. Out of ten children, she was the first girl born to George John Kister and Pearl Myrtle Babcock. Just two weeks before her passing she recalled, "There were five brothers older than me. I was the first girl. My dad was so happy when I was born; he got in the old Model A and drove all over to tell everyone, the aunts and uncles, that they had a girl!" She also remembered when German POW's were brought from camp to work for her father on the farm where they lived during WWII.

Gladys was recently heartbroken when her 2nd husband and love of her life, Jere B. Dietz, passed away a year and a half ago. Gladys had five daughters from her 1st marriage - Lana Antione, Shiela Addis (Gerald), Georgina Lee (Ananda), Pamela Snyder (Scott), and Julie Wilson. She had seven grandchildren - Lana Sciolla, Sheri Sarak, Tamara Lawler, Natalie Norcross, Haley Addis, Geneva Atchison, and Jesse Wilson, and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister and brother, Norvella Hogan and Talfred Kister.

Gladys became an entrepreneur when she opened GiGi's Cocktail Lounge in Ventura on New Year's Eve, 1985. She grew and operated her successful bar business for 30 years. She came to work every day, without retiring, until her last days.

At the age of 83 and with an ever-sharp mind, she did Sudoku puzzles daily, enjoyed Jeopardy, and always kept abreast of current events with the nightly news. She meticulously cared for herself and her home, continued to drive, and was as independent as anyone could be at her age. She loved her rose garden and hummingbirds, which she attracted with red sugar-water feeders and bird baths.

This sweetest lady was loved by everyone in the community, and adored by her daughters and grandchildren. She will be missed dearly and our lives will never be the same without her.

There will be two services for friends and family to honor and remember her:
