Sarah Peterie Johnson, b.1822 in Warren County, Kentucky, was the 7th child and second daughter born to Alexander M and Nancy Grasey Peterie originally of Washington County, Virginia. In the 1830 US Census the Peterie family is residing in Adams County, Illinois. Her father, Alexander, dies in 1831, she is 9 or 10 years old. At some point she moves into her brother John Peterie's home in Van Buren County, Iowa Territory. She m. 4/16/1844 to John Crain/Calvin Johnson (1820-1887) at her brother John's home in Van Buren Co., IA, USA. The 1850 US Census has them residing in Payson, Adams County, Illinois with one daughter and three sons. My Ggrandmother "Hattie" was born there in 1861. By the mid 1860s the family had moved to Williams, Benton, Missouri, United States. They are residing there per the 1870 US Census and they now have a grandson Clarence Garrion age 2 living with them. In 1877 my grandmother Harriet "Hattie" marries Joseph Gilbert Helsley. By the 1880 Census all the children have left home except the grandson Clarence. They move again to Allen County Kansas where in 1884, she dies. -- I would like to thank Find A Grave contributors Daryl Mallett & Barbara Biggs,
and especially Find A Grave contributor Rich Lowe and Margaret Hunt for all their assistance finding my great grandmother's family.
