Around the latter part of January they started to Virginia. Per Autie, right before they reached Paintsville, a courier announced that the Rebels were coming. They fought on the steep hillside facing the creek. Later George was part of General Sherman's March To The Sea.

Cause of death was Typhoid Fever.
