Choctaw County lost one of her best citizens on last Saturday morning about 7:30 o'clock when the spirit of Mr. Will C. Buck. a resident of Weir, passed to its final reward. Mr. Buck's death occurred after many months of illness and while all that skilled physicians and loving hands and hearts could do was done to restore his health, it was of no avail and his soul passed to its Maker on the above stated occasion. Mr. Buck was born and reared at Chester and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Buck, early settlers of this section. There he grew into manhood and married and in later years moved to Ackerman where he resided for a long time and took an active part in all civic and church activities and for many years was Superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School here. Some eighteen years ago he moved to his farm near Weir, in Beat 4, where he resided up until some several months ago when he moved to the town of Weir where he lived until his demise. Mr. Buck was 73 years of age and a consecrated member of the Methodist Church. In early life he joined the church at Old South Union and for all these years and up until his health failed, he took an active part in all services and activities there which has always been a hallowed place to him and his people.
Mr. Buck was an honest, upright Christian citizen and always not only stood for those things that meant for a better citizenship, but he was outspoken and ready to lend his time and talent to see that these things were done.
Truly a good and splendid man has passed on and his friends know by his upright life on this earth his was a rich reward which awaited him in the other world.
Mr. Buck is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maggie Gregg Buck, and the following: children, towit: C. E. Buck, Anniston, Ala.; John L. Buck, West Point; O. A. Buck; Earle, Ark., Mrs. W. H. Lavender, Weir; Mrs. E. L. Shaw, Tie Plant; Mrs. Charley Bell, Starkville ; three sisters, Mrs. Kittie Noel, Burgow, N. C.; Mrs. Fannie Roach, Memphis; Mrs. Annie B. White, Ackerman; five brothers, Rev. Ed Buck, Austin, Texas; A. T. and P. P. Buck, Anniston, Ala.; Sam Buck, Weir, and Earl Buck, Stewart.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Weir at two o'clock, Sunday afternoon, services being in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. W. Gibson, assisted by other local ministers, after which the remains were brought here and interred in Enon Cemetery.
The Plaindealer joins the many friends of the loved ones in extending to them its deepest and most sincere sympathy in the passing of this splendid citizen and upright Christian gentleman.
