Hattie grew up on a farm in Jackson Twp., Linn County, in eastern Iowas where her family had moved from Illinois. She married John B. Lisle 24 Feb 1881 in Victor, Iowa County, IA. They made a home and raised six children on a farm in Cass County, IA. She and her husband migrated to Clark Twp., Dixon County, NE in Mar 1892. Her youngest child had been born the year before.

Her sons and all but one daughter lived in the area. Her youngest daughter preceded her in death. When John B., her husband, died in 1904, Hattie eventually moved to a house in Dixon. In 1911, she married John Ludlow who ran a hotel in Minnehaha, SD with a family partner. They returned to Dixon to live. After her death in 1926, he returned to Pennsylvania.
