"Mrs. H. H. Hickman died suddenly at her home, southeast of the city, last Saturday night. Death was caused by the rupture of a blood vessel producing hemorrhage of the lungs. She was apparently in good health before the hemorrhage occurred, but died in fifteen minutes thereafter. The suddenness of her death was a great shock to the family and also to the whole community. Deceased was one of the most highly respected ladies in this locality. She was kind, gentle and of a loving disposition, and was esteemed by a large circle of neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed in the neighborhood where she has lived a happly home life, surrounded by all the comforts and the love of a devoted husband and children. The bereaved family and relatives have the sympathy of all in this sad hour of affliction. Iva A. Snyder was born near Lafayette, Ind., June 9th 1843, and died at her home near Kincaid, May 11,1901, aged 59 years, 11 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to H. H. Hickman near Fairmount, III., January 1st 1866. Five children were born to them, all of whom with the husband survive. She came to Kansas on an early day and settled on the place where she died. She united with the Presbyterian Church at Fairview in 1879, but that organization disbanding a few years ago and being succeeded by the M. E. organization, she united with the latter, and a few years ago the membership of the M. E. Church was transferred to the Kincaid charge and she became a member at this place. The funeral services were held at Fairview Church Monday, at 3 o'clock p.m., conducted by the Rev. Carter of this place. The large number of sorrowing friends present indicated the esteem in which deceased was held in the community. After the funeral services, interment was made in the cemetery near the church."
