Elizabeth Bethea Walter was 55 yrs 6 mos 28 dys. Her father was John ("Devil John") Bethea (1752-1812) - Her mother was Mary Henagan (1756-1824).

Find A Grave researcher Jim Sherwood writes:

- Was having difficulty with the dates of birth and death on this individual, prompting further research - Finally located information in Harllee's Kinfolks (Volume 3, page 2280) and in Cemeteries in Dillon County (Chapter I, page 112) which I deem to be more accurate than the dates recorded in Elizabeth Bethea Walter's listing on "Find-A-Grave" (Memorial # 35093650) - The dates should be as follows - Born: June 16, 1781 - Died: January 13, 1837

I had taken a photograph of her grave marker on June 28, 2009, but found the inscription practically unreadable - When I found the rubbing of her marker in Harllee's Kinfolks (which was published in 1937) and compared it with my photograph, I knew I had the puzzle solved - Her date of birth was also a more realistic fit with that of her parents' other children - She's the third child of seven children (born between 1775 and 1792)

- I feel the mistaken dates (which have been duplicated on numerous family trees found on the internet and in some Sweat Swamp Cemetery listings) stem from the misreading of the year of death on the virtually unreadable marker, as being 1857 when it really was 1837 (a difference of twenty years) - By calculating her date of birth (based on the age data on the grave marker), they mistook that date also by twenty years

- Attached below are copies of my photograph and that of the grave marker rubbing (published in 1937) - Hopefully you'll make the appropriate corrections on the "Find-A-Grave" website - You may wish to post the photo of the grave marker rubbing so others will not continue to duplicate erroneous data.

Proof that I'm imperfect. Dates have been corrected. Everyone please make corrections to your trees.
Thanks Jim
