Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - August 21, 1956:
TETON - John Rupert Baker, 90, Teton, early settler of Fremont County, died Monday morning in an Ashton hospital following an illness.
He was born November 29, 1865 at Mendon, Cache Valley, Utah, the son of Joseph and Lucy Pack Baker. He came to Idaho in 1889 settling in Teton where he homesteaded. He has lived there since.
He married Sarah Bassett on December 23, 1890 and 11 children were born to this union. Six children and his wife preceded him in death.
He was active in early canal construction in the Upper Snake River Valley and freighted from Mud Lake to West Yellowstone during the turn of the century.
Survivors include Frank Baker, Willard, Utah; Maud Anderson, Brigham City, Utah; J.L. Baker, St. Anthony; Thomas Baker, Rexburg; and Floyd Baker, Teton. One step-daughter, Mrs. Luella Richman, Rexburg; 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Teton LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop J.H. Williams of the Teton LDS Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Teton Cemetery.
