Newton Watters, age 95, passed away at the Scott
County Hospital Sunday, April 18, after an illness of three months. He was the
son of the late Joseph and Lavernia Sheppard Watters. He was a member of the
Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Lillie Watters of Oneida, 1 son, Arthur
(Bud) Watters of Oneida, 5 daughters, Mrs. Pearl Smith, Mrs. Maude Marcum, Mrs.
Virgie Sexton, Mrs. Maxine Jeffers and Mrs. Kathyrn Beets all of Oneida, 2
sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Cooper of Oneida, Tenn., Mrs. Mary Ellen Boyatt of
Maryville, Tenn., 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Essie Crabtree of Winfield, Tenn., 10
grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, 4
step-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the West Funeral Home
Chapel Monday April 20, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roy Blevins and the Rev. J. C.
Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Litton Cemetery. Pallbearers were,
Wallace Marcum, Charles Marcum, Fred Lee Smith, Wayne Chitwood, Lynn A.
Williamson, and Homer Jeffers. Arrangements by West Funeral Home. (Source: The
