LONACONING,MARYLAND —- Joseph R. “Wang” McKenzie, 79, of 14 Island Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1989, at the Western Maryland State Rehabilitation Center, Hagerstown, where he had been a patient for 12 years.

Born Aug. 25, 1910 in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Melvin F. and Emma Ann (Garlitz) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie retired from Westvaco’s Luke mill in 1974, where he had been a clerk in the old central storehouse. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lonaconing.

Surviving are his widow, Lovanna Allen McKenzie; two sons, Melvin F. McKenzie, Dallastown, Pa.; and James H. McKenzie, York, Pa.; three daughters, JoAnn Spiker, Lonaconing; Miss Barbara McKenzie, Frostburg; and Miss Cathy Broadwater, Eckhart; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal-Warnick Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Sodality and Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will recite the rosary there Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Father Paul Barnes, Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wilson Marshall, Sam Hutchinson, Burt Rowan, Aleck Beeman, Gary Broadwater and Don McKenzie.
