Funeral Today For Widely Known Citizen

Heart Attack Late Wednesday Results in Death Early Yesterday Morning.

Samuel S. McNinch, 62, widely known real estate operator and twice mayor of Charlotte, died early yesterday morning at his home, 507 North Church street, following a heart attack Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 o’clock at his home, conducted by Dr. W. W. Peele. pastor of the First Methodist Church, Rev. H. G. Hardin, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church at Gastonia. and Rev. E. K. McLarty. pastor of Hawthorne Lane Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood.

PALLBEARERS

Pallbearers will be E. B. Springs, Judge John J. Parker, Frank F.Jones, J. A. Russell, Dr. A. L. Whisnant, Dr. J. P. Matheson, H. P. Harding and John L. Wilkinson. Mr. McNinch was born February 3, 1867, at Chester, S. C, a son of he late F. A. and Sarah Virginia McNinch. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Charlotte where he has since resided. At one time Mr. McNinch was connected with Mecklenburg County government after which he became a partner In the E. B. Springs company here, wholesale grocers. He became mayor of this city in 1905, winning office without opposition. His second term also followed an election with out opposition. Previously Mr. McNinch was a member of the Board of Aldermen for several years.

ESTABLISHED BRICK FIRM

After his terms in public office he established the Charlotte Brick Company. For the last 10 years he has been associated with the real estate firm of S. S. McNinch. Surviving him are his wife, who formerly was Miss Julia Magill of Richburg, S. C. to whom he was married in 1883; a brother, Frank R. McNinch. who also is a former mayor of Charlotte: a son, S. S. McNinch, Jr., of Charlotte; three daughters, Mrs. John K. Slear and Miss Mattie McNinch, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. Tracy Council, of Boone: and a sister, Mrs. F. B. Smith of Charlotte.
