Maria Ignacia Martinez was born to Antonio Avan Martin and Maria Placida Ortega. On 10 Jan 1916, Ignacia married Alberto Lamberto Quintana. Their children were Jose Ruben (D: infancy), Jose Alberto, Celestino Genaro, Venceslado "Ben" Eloy, Jose Epitacio (D: infancy), Agustin Epitacio "Pete" Presciliano, Mariquita Ygnacia (D: infancy), Elias Nefidis "Neffie", Horacio Antonio "Jerry", Rosindo "Ross" Eufelio, Kino Andres, and Marie Minina "Minnie" Vita Quintana. Ignacia's siblings were Maria Felicitas, Maria del Socorro, Maria Estefana, Maria Petra Celestina, Jose, Praxedes, and Jose Nicasio Martinez.

From her mother's lineage, Ignacia was a descendent of the famous Ortega Weaving Family of Chimayo. From her father's lineage, Ignacia was the great-granddaughter of the 1837 Chimayo Rebellion leader Antonio Abad Montoya. Ignacia's genealogy has been traced back to the 1598 Juan de Oñate New Mexico Colonization and further.
