SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN WIDOW

Maggie Staples was the daughter of James A. and Rebecca" Bertha" (Lively) Skaggs. She was born April 7, 1866 in Monroe County, West Virginia.

Maggie had seven children from a prior marriage. A. P. Dillion of Wichita Falls, Texas; James A. Dillion of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; R. N. Dillion, somewhere in Texas; Clinton Dillion, Tacoma, Washington; Mary Gaines, Olalla, Wash., Lula West, Tacoma, Washington; Bertha Hoskins, Tacoma, Washington.

Maggie was the widow of Charles W. Fox, who died July 27, 1928 at Tacoma, Washington. They had married February 1, 1926 in Tacoma, Washington. He was with Company "I", 11th New York Infantry and was discharged due to wounds received in battle.

She next married James Staples. He died intestate on May 11, 1941; however, he left a handwritten note detailing his wishes to have a nurse for his wife until her death; then he wished their residence to go to the Veterans' Home.

She died in the Home Hospital on July 30, 1941. She is buried in the Home cemetery.
