JOSEPHUS LEMLEY
Josephus Lemley, son of Samuel and Margaret Lemley, was born Sept. 26, 1852, in Greene county, Pennsylvania, and departed this life at the home of his son, Arthur Lemley, in Mystic, Iowa, on Nov. 22, 1937, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 26 days.
When about twelve years of age he came to Iowa with his parents where he had since lived. On Nov. 30, 1872 he was united in marriage to Phoebe Jane Cross. The home was established on a farm in Monroe county, where they lived for forty years, moving to Russell in 1912.
To Mr. and Mrs. Lemley were born two sons and two daughters, Arthur Lemley, of Mystic; Mahlon Lemley, Scottsbluff, Nebr.; Mrs. Ruth Ella Morlan, Centerville; and Mrs. Mercy L. Carter, Ashtabula, Ohio.
During a revival meeting held at the Greenville school house in the winter of 1879, Mr. Lemley accepted Christ as his Saviour and placed his membership with the Concord Baptist church, later transferring to the Baptist church in Russell.
Besides the immediate family he leaves to mourn their loss, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in Russell Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Woodman Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, and burial was in the Russell cemetery.
