Although in Texas in 1900, it is believed that her mother may have lived on the gold fields in Alaska following her divorce, although whether Sylvia was with her is unknown. By 1910 Sylvia was living with her mother and new step-father, Andrew (Andreas) P. Garberg in Nevada.
Sylvia Flanigan married Oscar Hedman in Spokane, Washington. When their funds were completely depleted by his medical issues, she arranged for her husband to be admitted to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil in 1951. After Mr. Hedman passed away later that year, Mrs. Hedman relocated to Barrego Springs, California, located in what she called "a very agreeable corner of San Diego, California."
