Henry Acker, an old and well known German resident of Decatur, died on Thursday in the hospital for insane at Jacksonville. His body was sent to Decatur Friday.
Henry Acker was for forty years a resident of Decatur. He came here in '63. He worked as a farm hand, at the saw mill, for the brewing company, and on the police force.
He was born in Germany in 1835. He came to the United States in 1856 and shortly after that to Illinois. In 1859, he was married in Freedom, Il. and his wife survives him. About 1883, he went on the Decatur police force and worked that job for four years. He then went back to the brewing company but in later years he did nothing on account of ill health. Overwork brought on attacks of illness which finally made him insane.
Acker was a member of St. James German Catholic church and at one time was a member of the St. James aid society.
He leaves his wife, two sons and two daughters. The youngest daughter has recently entered St. John's hospital in Springfield. The other daughter is Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson of Atlanta. She is here for the funeral. John Acker of Chicago is one of the sons. The other son, Harry, is a sergeant in the regular Army of the Philippines. He has been a regular for nine years.
The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. James Catholic church. Rev. A. Teppe, the pastor, will officiate. The burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
The body may be seen at Moran's chapel after 4 o'clock Friday morning and before 8 o'clock Saturday morning.
