Gatz Services Will Be Held on Friday
    Funeral services for Mrs. L. D. W. Gatz, 95, who died Wednesday Sept 15, 1954, at a nursing home in Lincoln, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethen church in charge of Rev. V. J. Boehringer. Burial will be in Steele cemetery. The body of Mrs. Gatz is here at the Dorr-Philpot funeral home and from 1:30 o'clock Friday will lie in state at the church until the funeral hour.
    Grandsons of the deceased will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will be flower bearers.
    All of the children of Mrs. Gatz are expected here for the funeral.
    Mrs. Gatz death was caused by pneumonia. She had been in failing health for four years and seriously ill for two weeks.
    Mrs. Gatz was born Mar. 3, 1859, at Guttenberg, Ia. At the age of six years she came with her parents, Fred and Louise Schroeder, in a covered wagon to Richardson county.
    The family first settled south of Rulo and after a short while moved north of Rulo.
    Mrs. Gatz was married Mar. 5, 1878, in Falls City. The couple farmed northeast of Falls City continuously until 1917, when they moved into Falls City. Mr. Gatz died Oct 29, 1929.
    Mrs. Gatz spent a few years with a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Witte at Milwaukee, Wis. just prior to 1941 when she came back to Falls City to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. William Yoesel, and Mr. Yoesel. She lived with them until May 13 of this year when she was taken to the Courtney nursing home at Lincoln near the home of a daughter, Mrs. Herbert Preusse.
    Mrs. Gatz is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Yoesel, Falls City, Mrs. Minnie Cook, Hutchinson, Ks., Mrs. Preusse, Lincoln, Mrs. Witte & Miss Stella Gatz, both of Milwaukee; four sons, Dave Gatz, Henry Gatz & William T. Gatz, all of the Falls City area, and Ben Gatz, Rulo. There are also 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
    Mrs. Gatz was a member of the Falls City Evangelical United Brethren church. She was among the first members of the former Zion Evangelical United Brethren church, northeast of Falls City.
