Hugh C. Whitaker
Hugh C. "Buck" Whitaker, 69, 421 Western, died Monday at a Kansas City hospital. He had been ill six weeks.
He was born April 10, 1909, at Topeka. He lived at Topeka most of his life.
Mr. Whitaker retired in 1966 as supervisor of the Topeka Supply Depot at Forbes Air Force Base.
He served 13 years in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF & AM, Disabled American Veterans and Capitol Post No. 1, American Legion. He was active in Topeka bowling and gold leagues.
He married Mary Miller Seot. 23. She survives at the couple's Prairie Village home.
Other survivors include a son, Byron Whitaker, Kansas City; a daughter, Janet Botts, Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Minnie Goenour, 315 Western, and Dorothy Cauldwell, Wichita; two brothers, Perce Whitaker, Anaheim, Calif., and Charles Whitaker, Fullerton, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parker-price Mortuary. Masonic graveside services will be at Lynn Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 7 and 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
