Lad McFall Dies Eating Breakfast
--------------------------------------------
Former City Marshall Is Victim of Heart Disease
---------------------------------------------
William Lawrence McFall, 76, known in Marengo as “Lad” McFall, died at the breakfast table in the home of his brother, Charles [Charles Vance McFall], Tuesday morning. Heart disease was pronounced the cause of his death.

Mr. McFall had been ill for about 10 days from an attack of flu. Although his condition was not considered serious he had left his own home where he had lived alone since the death of his mother 16 years ago and was staying at the home of his brother where he might receive necessary care and attention. Death came unexpectedly while Mrs. C. V. [Charles Vance] McFall [Ella May (Boles) McFall] was answering a call at the door.

The deceased was the son of Dr. W. H. [William Henry McFall] and Catherine McFall [Catherine (Knott) McFall]. He was born in Marengo Nov. 25, 1858. His father was a pioneer Iowa County physician, coming to Marengo in 1854.

“Lad” McFall was well known as city Marshal of Marengo, which position he held for many years. His fearlessness, his innate honesty and his dependability were well known by those with whom he was associated. He lived for three years at Hastings, Neb., and for 13 years he was employed by Swift & Company at Chicago. The remainder of his life was spent in Marengo, part of which time he was engaged in the livery business.

He is survived by two brothers, C. V. [Charles Vance McFall], of Marengo, and D. H. [David Harrison McFall] of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the C. V. McFall {Charles Vance McFall] residence in charge of the Rev. W. T. Martin. Mrs. Martin will sing. Interment will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery, beside his parents and his sister.
