Mrs. L.D. Edgerton, 72, died at her home on Ward Avenue about midnight Saturday, February 14, her death being due to a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Edgerton became ill that afternoon in the office of Dr. C.O. DeHoff, where she had gone for an eye examination and was immediately taken home, passing away a few hours later. She had been in ill health for the past two years or so, but was much improved and her death came as a shock to her family and friends.
Georgia May Edgerton was born May 27, 1875, at Effingham, Kas., the daughter of Winfield Scott Davis and Mary Ann Davis. She was married to L.D. Edgerton at Effingham on September 30, 1896. For some years they lived in that city, later spending some time in Arkansas and Nebraska and moving to Deering, Mo. in 1917. In 1927 the family moved to Caruthersville, where they have resided since.
She had long been a loyal and faithful member of the Eastwood Memorial Church.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Gifford Edgerton; three daughters, Lila May and Rennie Dare Edgerton of this city and Mrs. E.B. McDowell of Greenville, N.C.; and five grandchildren Dr. Dow Edgerton of St. Louis, son of the late Winfield Dow Edgerton, Mary Frances and Gifford Edgerton, and Lila Dare and Everett McDowell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Floyd Brower conducting the service. Interment was in Maple cemetery with LaForge Undertaking Company in charge of arrangements.
Pall bearers include Robert Mehrle, C. Hendricks, Arl Lawrence, Lilbourn Lewis, Jas. Ahern and Lewis Proctor.
