Jacob first married Barbara Ritz in Pennsylvania, sometime prior to 1830, and they became the parents of two known children, Levi and Biddy. The 1840 census records indicate there could have been at least two more children. One family record shows a Nathan Jacob born about 1830 in PA.
It is assumed that Barbara died in Pennsylvania prior to 1850 - her burial location is unknown.
An 1840 census shows Jacob was living in Bedford Co., PA and in 1850 the family was living in Delaware Co, IA.
Secondly, Jacob married Barbara's sister, Mary Elizabeth Ritz, in Iowa sometime after 1850 and they were parents of six children: Franklin, Mary, Henry, Susan, David, and John. Mary is buried in the Monroe United Methodist Cemetery in Shelby Co, IA.
