Santiago was born in Santa Fe to Albino and Refugia Griego Alarid. His siblings were: Antonio, Tomas, Pelegrina, Ramona, Mary, Nellie, Tony and Josefa.

He was married to Lucia "Lucy" Baca Alarid and their children are; Ramon, Teresa, Manuel, Albino, Guadalupe, Leonor and Lucia.

He was preceded in death by his father Albino and his son Manuel.

Santiago passed away in Santa Fe at the age of 51.
