Son of Nicholas & Sarah Seely Chapman.

Joshua Chapman was born on the Burke-Lincoln border, near Camp Creek.
When he was nine years old, his family moved to Seely Creek. This placed the Chapman's near the Tallent family, who lived on Jacob's Fork, just below Seely Creek.

Just 17 years old, Joshua married Sarah Tallent on 18 November1819. Sarah 'Sally' was five years older than him. The couple made their home in the Upper Fork Township of Burke County, and had eight known children together.

Joshua was a very skilled stone mason, a profession which he pursued for most of his life.

In 1840, Joshua and Sarah decided to leave Burke County for Northern Georgia, where they lived until they returned to Burke around 1851. They stayed in Burke County for the rest of their lives.

Sarah and Joshua's sons Richard and Joshua were killed during the Civil War, and their daughter Sarah died in 1863, while her husband was far away at war. They had six young children, who were orphaned when their father died in a military hospital in 1865. Those children were raised by Joshua and Sarah.

Joshua Chapman passed away in 1880. His wife Sarah died eight years later. Now both of them rest in peace in the old Antioch Cemetery.
