Following an illness of nine months or more during most of which time she suffered intensely, Mrs. Martha Burton, widow of Robert Burton, died at her home in Stumptown, above the old road leading from Philpsburg to Osceola Mills at 8:30 on Monday evening, June 9th, 1930. Her death was the result of complications.
The deceased, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pilkington, was born in England on June 15th, 1863, making her age 66 years, 11 months and 25 days. She came to this country with her parents when she was but five years of age, and most of her life was lived in this section. In her young womanhood, she was married to Robert Burton, who died about 18 years ago.
Mrs. Burton was a member of the St. Lawrence Episcopal church, Osceola Mills, an affectionate mother, ind neighbor and possessed other traits of character that endeared her to a large circle of friends.
Surviving are one daughter and two sons, viz: Mrs. James Ibbeson of Coal Run Junction, William, near Osceola, and Thomas, at home. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters, viz: Alice, wife of John Hagen, Detroit, Mich.; Bess, the wife of Will Moffett, of Canonsburg; Mrs. Ada Fleck, of Altoona; Annie, wife of George Hartshorn, of Boswell; William and John Pilkington of Beckley, West Va., and Thomas and Robert Pilkington of Belleville, Illinois.
The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon, leaving the house at 3:30 and proceeding to the Episcopal church in Osceola, where the service will be conducted by the rector, Rev. C.S. Brown.
