Monitor - Leland R. James, 58, of Monitor and a lifelong North Central Washington resident, died Monday in a Seattle hospital.
Mr. James was born, August 31, 1920, at Wenatchee. He was raised and attended schools in Monitor.
He also attended schools in Cashmere and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1940. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska and Europe. He returned to Monitor after his discharge to operate an orchard with his father.
He was a member of the Wenatchee Eagles No. 204 and a past commander of the Cashmere American Legion Post No. 64.
Surviving are a son, Craig, Mount Vernon; a daughter, Pamela; two grandchildren; his mother, Vida James, Wenatchee; and two sisters, Mrs. Denny (Dorothy) Horton Monitor, and Mrs, Lloyd (Jackie) Snyder, Wenatchee.
Braun Funeral Home, Cashmere, is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held Thursday morning in the Braun Funeral Chapel with Rev.
Charles Smith officiating. Mrs. John MacPherson sang "Good Night and Good Morning" with Earl Banes orgamiest. Burial took place in the Cashmere Cemetery with the Wenatchee National Guard, providing the military rites. Harry Smith presented the flag to the family, on behalf of the Cashmere American Legion Post 64.
Pallbearers were Bob Walker, Melvin Younkin, Bob Parsons, Fred Evans, Howard Roth, and Frazier Strutzel.
