SERVICES FOR ALVIN BERRY HELD SUNDAY
After a siege of seriousness illness of five weeks, Alvin Berry passed away at the St. Francis Hospital last Thursday evening at 10:30. Although his life had been dispared of for some time, he seemed to be on the road to recovery the first of last week and his death came as a shock to his relatives and friends.
Alvin was a member of this community for over twenty years. He was only forty-nine at the time of his passing. The entire community was saddened by his untimely death.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Church of God. Reverend Ray C. Smith, of Colorado Springs and former pastor here, was in charge.
Alvin Richard Berry was born on February 21, 1893 near Rogan, Nebraska, and departed this life in St. Francis Hospital July 9, 1942 at 10:30 p.m. at the age of 49 years, 4 months and 18 days. He was the son of Edwin Nuel and Mary Elizabeth Berry. Alvin grew to young manhood on a farm near Rogan and was married to Miss Cecil F. Waggoner on September 3, 1919. On March 1st, 1920, they moved to a farm south of McDonald where they have since made their home.
To this union two children, Mary Etta, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1935 at the age of twelve years; and Melvin Richard at home.
Alvin was a faithful and active worker in the Church of God.
His health began to fail some five years ago but he kept up with his usual activities until five weeks ago when he was taken suddenly seriously ill and rushed to St. Francis hospital where all was done to him that human hands could do. He was a very patient sufferer through his illness and trusted in his Master for strength to bear his pain.
Besides his wife Cecil and son Melvin, he leaves to mourn his passing, two brothers, Henry of Wilcox, Nebraska; and Clarence E. of Pueblo, Colorado; and four sisters, Mrs. Catherine Moon of Loveland, Colorado; Mrs. Sarah A. Garner of Laird, Colorado; Mrs. Ida M. Parsons of Denver and Mrs. Cora M. Gee of Visalia, California, and many other relatives and a host of friends.
