The .88 mile John J. Donovan Memorial Trail dedicated on 18 October 2006 at Central State Hosital Campus, Petersburg, VA where John was employed for twenty years.

Place where John went camping and found. This remote gorge is about 150 feet deep. This is part of Long Valley Canyon.

The spot "Lost Journey" is where John was found on the 4th of June, 2006. Approx. coordinates N33.79720° W116.61373° near Hidden Fork(creek),CA. Go to google earth. Scan 1000 feet East of above coordnates. I believe this is the remote Long Valley Canyon where John was found at 4300 feet at approx.coordinates N33.79639° W116.6106°
The above map is the result of Gina Allen (age 24) & Brandon Day (age 28) from Dallas, Texas getting lost and finding John's camp site and backpack on May 8th, 2006. Brandon found matches in the backpack and set a fire is how they were rescued. Three weeks later, John was found. John then became a hiking martyr. Above map is the San Jacinto mountians area in CA.
John was last seen on May 3rd, 2005 a little south of Saddle Junction (8080 feet altitude). We believe he may have traveled north along most of the Pacific Crest Trail arriving Long Valley in the evening of May 3rd, 2005 is so far the best information available. John's last written note was 14 May 2005.

Bill's story gives abundants of detail information. The tarp in the picture was wrapped around John's body when found. Look at the bottom of the tree. In the background is a 20 to 25 foot waterfall.
