Otis was the youngest of at least 8 children born to Jacob Duffie Williams and Catharine C. Mueller. After his mother's death when was 7 years old, his sister Minnie took Otis and three of her other younger siblings into her home to raise.

Otis and two of his brothers, Virgil and Urban, were printers by trade. Otis was a member of the International Typographical Union, and according to his death notice, the members of his local in Vicksburg who knew him "reported him to be a man of many good qualities and possessed of a big heart." The news article also said that he led something of a Bohemian life, and had a wife in Little Rock, although I have never been able to find out who she was.

Otis was my great granduncle. According to the Vicksburg Evening News on 17 June 1910, locals were planning a funeral for him, paid by the union. On 18 June 1910, another article said Otis' family had contacted them, and asked them to hold off on the service and hold his remains for family.

Given that he is buried in Vicksburg, it would seem my extended Williams family did not get its act together to being his remains home. I remain ever grateful to the Typographical Union in Vicksburg for giving Julian Otis Williams a dignified burial and resting place.
