She was the daughter of John M. and Mary Anne Kalebaugh Forry. She went to Ohio to live with her sister in 1910. She obtained a position as a matron at the county home in Dixon, IL. There she met Valentine Heft. They were married on February 21, 1912. In the early 1920s they moved to her father's small farm near Versailles, OH. They had six children.
