VERSAILLES — Richard P. "Dick" Heft, 89, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Saturday June 9, 2018 at 6:55 a.m. at the Brethren Retirement Community [Greenville, Ohio]. He was born August 1, 1928 in York Twp., Darke County, Ohio, son of the late Valentine A. and Catherine (Forry) Heft. He was raised in Darke County and lived in Webster for 13 years before moving to Greenville in October of 1998. He served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Infantry in Germany during the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator working out of the Union Hall for various contractors, retiring in 1990 after 38 years of service.
Dick was a member of Webster United Methodist Church; Versailles Masonic Lodge; Gettysburg Masonic Lodge; Veterans of Foreign Wars in Versailles and the Versailles Eagles; as well as the Local #18-Ohio Operating Engineers.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lova Jean (Dunn) Heft, whom he married December 9, 1953 and passed away November 1995; second wife, Marilee (Netzley) Oswalt Heft; his daughter: Judith Ann Selanders; sisters: Jane Blake Francis, and Mary Sherry; brothers: Ferd, John and William "Bill" Heft. He is survived by his son: Paul Heft of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law: Candis and Jeff Swartz of Troy; stepchildren: Mark Oswalt of Arcanum, Brian Oswalt of Laura, and Kathy Maus of Laura; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday June 13, 2018 and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home by the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge. Veteran's graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or Webster United Methodist Church.
