Fred Allen, 62, night watchman on the Ohio river bridge of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad company for the past seven years, was killed instantly shortly after 6:30 o'clock Sunday evening near the Beaver end of the structure when he was struck by a train. Railroad officials believe that Allen became confused and stepped too close to the tracks as train No. 23, Cleveland bound, due at Beaver at 6:34 and running three minutes late, thundered over the bridge. "Detail Removed" Mr. Allen previously had been employed as a mill worker in wood working plants and prior to his connection with the railroad company had worked in the mills of the Haney Lumber Company and Cook-Anderson Company, Beaver. He resided at 1622 third Street, Beaver, and was well known in this community. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Emma Balmer Allen; four daughters, Misses Lillian, Ruth, Gertrude and Margaret Allen, at home; a son Harold Allen, Beaver; two grandchildren, Barbara and Harold Allen, Jr.; and a sister, Mrs. William H. Booker, Phillips, Me. Friends will be received at the Sheets Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday.
