Mrs. Emma B. Allen, of Beaver, announces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Ruth Hazel Allen, to Clyde Albert Lasher, son of Mrs. Estella Patton of Conway. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Beaver high school and the Maison Frederic Beauty School, Pittsburgh, while the groom is a graduate of Kittanning high school, Geneva College and the University of Pittsburgh. He is employed in the History department of the Conway school as instructor. A June wedding is planned.

Mrs. Ruth Hazel Lasher, 87, died Monday, Oct 18, 1999, at Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., of congestive heart failure. Born Nov. 9, 1911, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was one of five children of Fred and Emma (Balmer) Allen. In 1941 she married Clyde Albert Lasher and lived Conway until moving to Miami, Fla., in 1948. She and Clyde left Miami in 1972 and lived in Starke, Fla., where they were active members of the First Presbyterian Church. Upon Clyde's passing in 1989, Ruth moved to Norwich, Vt., to live with her daughter and family. Ruth was known for her gentle goodness and selfless devotion to others. She loved observing the marvels of nature, was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle buff. She kept up an ambitious correspondence with family members and friends in Pennsylvania and Florida. Ruth's family consisted of two sisters, Lillian Wendell, Industry, and Margaret Retzer, Beaver. She is preceded by a sister, Gertrude Hoy, of State College, Pa., and a brother, Harold Allen. She had two daughters, Janet B. Ladwig, Homosassa Springs, Fla., and Margaret Parrott, Norwich, Vt.; six grandchildren, Michael R. Ladwig, Keesville, N.Y.; Jeffrey Parrott, Seattle, Wash.; Glenn Ladwig, Gainesville, Fla.; Dana Leigh Parrott, Astoria, N.Y., Darin Ladwig, Miami, Fla., and Timothy Parrott, Burlington, Vt., and three nieces and one nephew. Arrangements are being made by the JONES FUNERAL HOME, Starke, Fla. Friends will be received on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, from noon to 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Starke, where a service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Crosby Lake Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lasher Were Oct. 23, 1999 in the First Presbyterian Church of Starke with the Rev. Gary Hardesty conducting the services. Interment was in Crosby Lake Cemetery in Starke under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Starke

Norwich, VT.-Ruth H. Lasher of Norwich, VT, died Monday at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H. after an extended illness. She was 87. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Norwich from Starke in 1989. Mrs Lasher worked as a beautician for several years in the Pittsburgh area, and later as a baker at West Miami Junior High School for more than 10 years. She was also a skilled homemaker. She was a member of Starke First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Parrott of Norwich and Janet Ladwig of Homosassa Springs; two sisters Lillian Wendell of Industry, Pa. and Margaret Retzer of Beaver, Pa.; six grandchildren.
