GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Lester Otto Troester, 89, died June 14, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will be in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born on June 16, 1919, on the family farm, in Millville Township, son of George and Gertrude (Collins) Troester. He received his education at the Friedlein Country School.

He married Jessie Belle Decker on Sept. 29, 1943, in Farmersburg; she preceded him in death in 1992. They continued to farm the same family farm until 1987, when they moved to Guttenberg.

Lester loved his life on the farm and sight-seeing throughout the countryside. He also enjoyed listening to Polka music and reading Farm & Ranch magazines. Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were the things he enjoyed most.

Surviving are five sons, Jerome (Cindy), of Guttenberg, David (June), of Brecksville, Ohio, Dayle (Susan), of Manchester, Harley (Nancy) of Dickeyville, Wis., Richard (Vickie), of Shellsburg, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Johanningmeier; and a sister-in-law, Leona Troester, both of Monona; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur Troester and Philip Troester; two sisters and their husbands, Bernice (Frank) Walters and Emma (Thomas) McDowell; and a brother-in-law, Carl Johanningmeier.
